Delegation of Belarus participates in the thematic plenary meeting of the UN Conference on Disarmament

On June 14, 2016 the Belarusian delegation took part in a thematic plenary meeting of the UN Conference on Disarmament, dedicated to the issues of nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation and prevention of nuclear war.
During the event, the position of the Republic of Belarus on the issues of ending the nuclear arms race and nuclear disarmament; prevention of nuclear war, , concluding effective international arrangements on security assurances to non-nuclear-weapon States was presented to the Member States of the Conference.
The Belarusian delegation stressed the need for a coordinated international approach to address these issues, noted the futility of attempts to promote issues of nuclear disarmament without participation of nuclear states in the negotiations, and called for consensus to develop legally binding instruments on comprehensive ban on nuclear weapons and on unambiguous and unconditional security assurances to non-nuclear States within the framework of the UN Conference on Disarmament.
