Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus V.Makei visits New York

On September 20, 2016 during the visit to New York, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, participated in the opening ceremony of the general debate “Sustainable Development Goals: a Universal Push to Transform Our World” of the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

On the margins of the United Nations General Assembly, V.Makei held a number of bilateral meetings.

At the meeting with the Minster of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Angola, Georges Rebelo Chicoti, the sides underlined the mutual interest in intensification of bilateral Belarusian-Angolan ties in political, trade and economic spheres. The parties agreed on a facilitation of the visit of the Head of the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Belarus to familiarise with the potential of the bilateral cooperation.

V.Makei discussed with the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, Michael Carpenter, the ways of establishing interaction between Belarus and the USA in the military sphere, as well as facilitating direct dialogue between the military agencies of the two countries in the situation of increasing tension in the Eastern European region.

While attending protocol events organized by the United Nations Secretariat, the U.S. and the EU the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus had a number of working contacts with the European colleagues and representatives of other states.
