Belarus-EU Human Rights Dialogue

On July 20, 2017 Brussels (the Kingdom of Belgium) hosted another round of Belarus-EU Human Rights Dialogue. The delegation of Belarus was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Oleg Kravchenko. The delegation of the European Union was led by the Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia of the European External Action Service (EEAS), Thomas Mayr-Harting. Representatives of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Justice participated in the event. Representatives of the EEAS, the European Commission and a number of the EU Member States (as observers) also took part in the dialogue.

In the course of the meeting, the participants discussed current state and prospects for further interaction between Belarus and the EU in Human Rights sphere, particularly in the context of implementation of the National Human Rights Action Plan and recommendations in the framework of the Universal periodic review of the UN Human Rights Council, reforming of penitentiary system, ensuring civil freedoms, protection of vulnerable groups of population, gender equality, combating violence in the family. The sides also exchanged views on a number of individual cases on respect of Human Rights in the EU and Belarus.

The representatives of several Belarusian non-governmental organizations took part in discussion on some issues within the agenda of the dialogue and expressed their assessments and proposals.
