Permanent Representative of Belarus Y.Ambrazevich meets the UN High Commissioner for Refugees

On September 27, 2016 the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus in Geneva, Yuri Ambrazevich, met with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi.

During the meeting, the sides discussed a wide range of issues related to cooperation between Belarus and the UNHCR. The parties noted a constructive and fruitful nature of cooperation between Belarus and the UNHCR, the fact that the sides facilitated a number of projects aimed at strengthening national capacities and improvement of legislation in the field of forced migration.

The High Commissioner welcomed the considerable contribution of Belarus in receiving refugees and displaced persons from Ukraine. It was stressed that the UNHCR positively considered actions taken by the Belarusian side in this situation.

The parties also discussed the results of the UN summit on the issue of mass movements of refugees and migrants which took place in New York in September 2016, and was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Makei.
