On Interaction Between Belarusian and Lithuanian Border Departments

Development of the interaction between Belarus and Lithuania in the border sphere was the main topic of a working meeting between the head of the State Border Troops Committee of Belarus Alexander Pavlovskiy and chief of the Lithuanian State Security Department attached to the interior ministry of Lithuania General Jurgis Jurgialis. The meeting started on May 11 in Vilnius.

The press service of the State Border Troops Committee, the agenda includes exchange of information about the common border and its development tendencies. The heads of border departments considered possible terms of signing an intergovernmental agreement on the activity of the so-called commissioners. The keynote of the meeting was also promising directions on development of the Belarusian-Lithuanian border checkpoints, fight against illegal drugs turnover, smuggling and terrorism, conduction of joint operations. Alexander Pavlovskiy and Jurgis Jurgialis plan to hold consultations on the issues of joint participation in a sitting of heads of border departments within the framework of the Council of the Baltic Sea States. The sitting is expected to be held in June in Vilnius.
