On June 8, 2017 the United Nations Conference on Disarmament approved the Permanent Representative of Belarus to the United Nations Office at Geneva, Yury Ambrazevich, as the co-facilitator of the Conference Working Group on the “way ahead”.

The representative of Belarus will work on in-depth consideration of the topics of new types of weapons of mass destruction and new systems of such weapons, including radiological weapons, as well as on comprehensive program of disarmament and transparency in armaments, with a focus on elaboration of the negotiating mandate of the Conference on these issues.

This decision of the Conference is especially important in the context of the submission by the Republic of Belarus in 2017 for consideration by the First Committee of the UN General Assembly of the draft resolution on the prohibition of the development and production of new types of weapons of mass destruction and new systems of such weapons.

The decision of the Conference once again confirms the authority of Belarus as an active and consistent supporter of building a more secure world.
