Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus V.Makei participates in the Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Visegrad Group and the Eastern Partnership countries

On August 31, 2017 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, participated in the Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Visegrad Group (V4) and the Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries in Budapest, Hungary.

The event was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia, Sven Mikser (Estonia holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2017) and the European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn.

During the meeting, the Heads of delegations discussed issues regarding holding the upcoming Eastern Partnership summit in November 2017 in Brussels, including the preparation of its’ declaration, as well as considered the cooperation in the field of energy infrastructure and expansion of financial cooperation between the Eastern Partnership countries and the European Union.

In his statement at the plenary session, V.Makei stressed the importance of achievement of concrete results by “Eastern Partnership”, including the development and implementation of specific projects within the Initiative. Foreign Minister noted the need to preserve a non-confrontational and constructive nature of the EaP.

V.Makei supported the activation of trade and economic cooperation between the EaP states and the European Union and the promotion of connectivity between the European and Eurasian integration processes.

The Head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto.

The sides exchanged views on the prospects for the expansion of cooperation within the framework of regional initiatives and international organizations, as well as discussed the promotion of bilateral Belarusian-Hungarian trade and economic cooperation.

On the margins of the Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Eastern Partnership and the Visegrad Group, V.Makei also met with Foreign Ministers of Ukraine, Poland, Georgia and other countries, during which a number of issues on the bilateral and multilateral agenda were discussed.
