Opening ceremony of the exhibition “Vasil Bykov. Long Way Home…”

On June 20, 2016 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus hosted opening ceremony of the exhibition “Vasil Bykov. Long Way Home…” dedicated to the life and work of the great Belarusian writer, as well as to the Day of Remembrance of Victims of the Great Patriotic War.

The exhibition is based on the writer's last lifetime book and is a literary and documentary project of the State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature.

In her opening speech, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Alena Kupchyna, noted that the name of Vasil Bykov is known not only in our country but also far beyond its’ borders. His works, dedicated to the Great Patriotic War, hold a special place in the Belarusian and foreign literature. They were translated into 52 foreign languages.

The Head of the State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature pointed out that the first, yet lifetime exhibition, dedicated to Vasil Bykov, had a distinctive title “Vasil Bykov’ voice is heard all around the world”. It is symbolic that the current exhibition, which opening ceremony was attended by the representatives of different countries, is based on that very first exhibition. The Head of the Museum noted that items, handed over to the museum personally by the author and his wife, as well as numerous photographs of places in Belarus and abroad, connected to Vasil Bykov’ life path, hold a special value among the exhibits.



The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, heads of the diplomatic corps accredited in the Republic of Belarus, representatives of the State Museum of History of Belarusian Literature and employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
