Delegation of Belarus participates in negotiations on WTO accession

On January 23-26, 2017 at the WTO headquarters in Geneva, the delegation of the Republic of Belarus headed by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs,  Andrei Yeudachenka, participates in the negotiations on the WTO accession of Belarus, 8th meeting of the Working Party on WTO accession of Belarus. Belarusian delegation will also hold bilateral meetings on market access for goods and services with 10 WTO Members including the U.S. and EU.

In the course of the visit, the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Andrei Yeudachenka, met with the Director General of the WTO, Roberto Azevêdo.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the situation with the WTO accession process of Belarus. The Director General of the WTO welcomed significant intensification of talks on Belarus’ accession and confirmed his support to our country for expedited joining the organization. Both sides expressed their satisfaction with the progress achieved in 2016 in elaboration of documents by Belarus for the WTO and with circulation of Elements of a draft Working Party Report. The Director General of the WTO announced that his organization would continue to develop technical cooperation with Belarus and would assist in raising the expert capacity.

A.Yeudachenka also met with the Chairman of the WTO Working Party on Accession of Belarus, Permanent Representative of Turkey to the WTO, Kemal Madenoğlu, and senior officials of the WTO Secretariat. The parties discussed the current state and laid down possible next steps in the talks between Belarus and the WTO.
