Ambassador of Lithuania was invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus

On May 6, 2016 due to yesterday's statement of the Lithuanian Foreign Office regarding the incident that allegedly happened in April this year at the building site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Lithuania was invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.

Lithuanian side was presented with official information on the absence of any sort of incidents at the constructional site during the whole period of building works. The Ministry of Energy of Belarus firmly confirms that the case should be considered only as a defect during the preliminary stage of work at one of the utility and ancillary buildings. The consequences of this defect have been fully eliminated, and they do not affect the safety of the object during the construction process.

Foreign Ministry once again reminded, that to ensure the quality of construction works, as well as the quality of materials and equipment, the internal and external inspections are constantly organized.

The Belarusian side confirmed its intention to receive IAEA Site & External Events Design Review mission (the SEED mission) and to conduct comprehensive risk and safety assessment (stress-tests) of the Belarusian NPP. In strict accordance with international commitments the cooperation of Belarus with international experts from the IAEA, the World Association of Nuclear Operators and other organizations will be continued.

Belarus is ready to discuss referred incident with Lithuania during the bilateral expert consultations, scheduled for June this year.
