Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus V.Makei pays an official visit to the Czech Republic

On June 15-16, 2017 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, paid an official visit to the Czech Republic.

The Head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry met with the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Bohuslav Sobotka. The sides discussed the current state and prospects for the development of the Belarusian-Czech cooperation. Special attention was paid to the expansion of bilateral cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, the development of interregional ties, the intensification of cooperation between Belarusian and European financial and economic institutions.



V.Makei held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Lubomír Zaorálek, during which the Ministers discussed the whole range of issues on the bilateral agenda of the Belarusian-Czech relations. During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on current issues on the international agenda, prospects for bilateral cooperation within international organizations.

The parties paid special attention to the issues of further development of the dialogue between Belarus and the EU, including its’ political, economic and humanitarian components. The parties agreed that it was necessary to make the positive processes of development of relations between Belarus and the European Union irreversible.

The prospects of Belarus' participation in the Eastern Partnership initiative were also discussed at the meeting, including in the context of the preparations for the EaP Summit in Brussels in November 2017. The Czech side expressed its’ willingness to support the Republic of Belarus on the process of the country's accession to the WTO.

The Minister also considered cooperation of the two states within the OSCE and the Council of Europe, where the Czech Republic currently holds the Presidency.

Considerable attention was paid to security issues on the European continent, as well as to the discussion of the situation in the region.

The sides also exchanged views on the development of the internal situation in their countries.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, V.Makei, visited the Czech-Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Minister discussed with the executive staff of the Chamber specific projects aimed at overcoming the decline in trade between Belarus and the Czech Republic.

As part of the events dedicated to the 500th Anniversary of Belarusian printing, V.Makei participated in the flower-laying ceremony for the memorial plaque to Francis Skaryna in the National Library of the Czech Republic, as well as in the opening of the exhibition of masters of Belarusian graphics at the “Clementinum” gallery. During this event, the Director of the National Library of Belarus presented  the National Library of the Czech Republic and the National Museum of the Czech Republic with the “Book Heritage of Francis Skaryna”.

The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Chair of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Czech MPs, several Heads of diplomatic missions, representatives of the Belarusian diaspora.



V.Makei and his Czech colleague L.Zaoralek also laid wreaths at the monument to Francis Skaryna in the city of Prague.
