Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus A.Dapkiunas meets the UNIDO Secretariat delegation

On April 20, 2018 the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Andrei Dapkiunas, met with the delegation of the Secretariat of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) headed by the Chief of the Regional Division for Europe and Central Asia, Jacek Cukrowski.

The meeting was held as a follow-up to the discussion between the Deputy Minister A.Dapkiunas and the UNIDO Director General Li Yong held in Vienna in March 2018.
 
The parties shared their views on the implementation in Belarus of the UNIDO projects and regional programs of technical assistance as well as on the prospects for expanding cooperation between Belarus and UNIDO in such domains as energy and resource efficiency, clean production and digital economy.
 
The possibilities of elaborating an updated framework program of cooperation between Belarus and UNIDO and establishing the UNIDO office in Belarus were also discussed at the meeting.
 
UNIDO is a specialized agency in the United Nations system that supports states in modernizing industrial production, ensuring safe and sustainable industrial development, adapting of new technologies, training and capacity-building. Belarus has been involved in UNIDO activities since 1985. UNIDO was among the first international organizations that provided technical assistance to Belarus for minimizing the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster. In 2017, Elena Kupchina, Permanent Representative of Belarus to the international organizations in Vienna, was elected to the post of the Chairman of the UNIDO General Conference.
