Belarus is elected Vice-Chair of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe

On April 27, 2017 the 67th session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe “UNECE at 70: Economic Integration and Cooperation towards 2030” completed its’ work at the UN Office in Geneva.

During the meeting, Belarus was unanimously elected to the post of Vice-Chair of the Economic Commission for Europe and Executive Committee, the main intergovernmental governing body of the UNECE, where it will serve for a two-year period together with Latvia (Chairman) and Switzerland (Vice-Chair).

Following the two days’ deliberations, the UNECE Member States adopted the High-level Statement which, in particular, underlined that “UNECE has been and remains an effective platform where countries convene to solve challenges through concerted action”. The states also recognized that “this platform can contribute towards greater economic integration and cooperation to maintain and strengthen the economic relations of the European countries, both among themselves and with other countries of the world, and support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”.
