UN General Assembly adopted the resolution on cooperation with middle-income countries

On November 28, the Second Committee (economic and financial issues) of the UN General Assembly adopted by consensus the resolution Cooperation for development with middle-income countries.
The delegation of Belarus took an active part in elaboration of the resolution.
The document emphasizes the need to address diverse development needs and challenges of middle-income countries (MICs) and calls on the United Nations development system to support the efforts of this category of countries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The UN Member States supported the initiative of Belarus to convene a high-level meeting of the General Assembly at the beginning of its 73rd session to discuss the gaps and challenges faced by middle-income countries in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
In a statement during the adoption of the resolution, the delegation of Belarus stressed the importance of recognizing and supporting this category of countries where the majority of the world's population lives and which play an important systemic role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The representative of Belarus also noted the readiness of the country to engage actively in the preparatory process of the high-level meeting on MICs in the Fall of 2018, expressing appreciation to the UN Member States for the support of Belarus’ initiative.
