10 January 2004On January 9, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko accepted credentials of the Ambassador of India Tara Singh, of the Ambassador of Libya Abdullah al-Megraui, of the Ambassador of Tajikistan Amirkhon Safarov.
The Belarusian-Indian relationship is characterized by a traditionally high level of political and trade-economic interaction. We in Belarus put a high value on the kind relations with India, them being sincere and devoid of problems, said the President welcoming the new Indian Ambassador in our country. “Friendship established between our peoples and states is a major factor of stability. If we had not good relations with such superpowers as India, China, and Russia, we would face greater difficulties,” underscored the Belarusian leader.
Alexander Lukashenko noted with satisfaction that bilateral relations with India are based on scientific and technological cooperation (54 contracts have been realized in ten year’s period within the framework of the Belarusian-Indian scientific and technological cooperation programmes). “This is not the case with any other state, even with Russia we do not have such a situation,” said the President and emphasized Belarus’ intention to develop further contacts in that and in a number of other fields.
During the conversation with the Ambassador of Libya, Head of the State expressed his conviction that in 5-10 years Libya would reach a very high level of development. We are prepared to contribute to this process by cooperating with Libya, said the President.
Alexander Lukashenko noted that the situation in Libya is assessed under the principled approach in Belarus and we closely observe the evolution of Libya’s foreign policy. According to the Belarusian leader, the relations between both countries are built on the basis of honesty and Libya could already find convincing evidence that Belarus is a reliable and principled partner in its cooperation with foreign states.
Accepting the credentials of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Tajikistan in Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko assured the diplomat that he is going to work in a friendly country where Tajiks are loved and respected.
