On March 20-21, 2017 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, paid an official visit to the Sultanate of Oman.
In the course of the visit, V.Makei met with the Vice Premier for Relations and International Cooperation Affairs, Special Envoy of the Sultan of Oman, Sayyid Asaad bin Tariq al-Said. The Belarusian official handed over the letter of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko addressed to the Sultan of Oman, Qaboos bin Said, with the assessment of the current state and prospects of the Belarusian-Omani relations.
The Head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry noted the necessity to promptly form an intergovernmental mechanism of cooperation between Belarus and Oman in the format of a joint committee and sign the corresponding bilateral agreement. The Vice Premier assured that the Omani side will take necessary steps on the above issue in the nearest future.
At the meeting with the Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, Yusuf bin Alawi, the sides discussed the development of bilateral relations in the field of politics, economy, investment, education, science and culture.

In the course of the meeting with the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, and the Chairman of the Board of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Khalil bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khonji, the parties considered the results of the implementation of agreements reached during the visit of the delegation of Omani businessmen and investors to Minsk in September 2016 and highlighted the priority areas of the bilateral trade and economic cooperation. The sides named agriculture, industrial cooperation, information technology and tourism as promising areas for bilateral collaboration.

V.Makei held a number of meetings with representatives of Omani business community, during which the information on the economic potential of our country was presented. Businessmen were suggested to consider the possibility of participation in the implementation of investment projects in Belarus in the areas of mutual interest.
Following the results of the business part of the visit, the sides reached an agreement to organize in the near future the exchange of delegations of relevant Belarusian and Omani experts with the aim to implement specific projects and programmes of cooperation in the spheres of mutual interest.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs met with the Chairman of the Council of State of the Sultanate of Oman, Yahya bin Mahfoudh al-Mantheri, and the Chairman of the Consultative Assembly of Oman, Khalid Al Mawali, during which the parties considered the ways of expansion of Belarusian-Omani parliamentary cooperation and strengthening the inter-parliamentary collaboration on the international arena. The parties emphasized the importance of involving Oman MPs in the implementation of bilateral economic projects and providing political support to the process.
Within the framework of the visit, the Office of the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Belarus in the Sultanate of Oman was opened. The event was attended by Oman's high-ranking officials, representatives of the diplomatic corps and businessmen.

The appointment of well-known businessman Qais Al Yousef as the Belarusian Honorary Consul to Oman will play an important role in the intensification of bilateral political, trade, economic, investment and business ties.
A Memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Sport and Tourism of Belarus and the Ministry of Tourism of Oman on cooperation in the field of tourism was signed during the meeting with the Minister of Tourism of Oman, Ahmed bin Nasser Al Mahrizi.
