On November 5-6, 2018, a group of representatives of the U.S. think-tanks visits Belarus. The delegation includes Lt. General (ret.) Ben Hodges, the Pershing Chair in Strategic Studies of the Center for European Policy Analysis, Dr. Michael Carpenter, Senior Director of the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement, Mr. Bruce McClintock, an expert of the RAND Corporation, Mr. Glen Howard, President of the Jamestown Foundation, and Mr. Vladimir Socor, Senior Fellow of the Jamestown Foundation.
Their program includes meetings with Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei and at the Ministry of Defense, as well as visits to the Minsk Suvorov Military School, the High-Tech Park and the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War.
On November 5, 2018, Ben Hodges and Glen Howard laid flowers to the Minsk is a Hero City Monument, paying tribute to those who fought for liberation of Belarus in the Great Patriotic War.
At the meeting with Foreign Minister, the parties discussed the current state of the Belarus – U.S. relationship and its further development, the situation in the European region and potential areas of cooperation with the U.S. expert community.
American experts will also participate in a briefing on Belarus – U.S. relations organized by the Minsk Dialogue Initiative. Ben Hodges and Michael Carpenter will be the main speakers at the event.
