On May 14, 2019 the Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus, Andrei Dapkiunas, met with the delegation of the United Nations Secretariat led by the Director of Europe and Central Asia Division, Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations of the UN Secretariat, Levent Bilman.
A.Dapkiunas drew attention of the UN Secretariat regional division director on the initiatives of Belarus on peace in the region and start of a broad international dialogue in order to prevent conflicts and strengthen trust between countries.
L.Bilman highly appreciated the role of Belarus in organizing the negotiation process to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. He also noted positively the activities of Belarus in achieving sustainable development goals and the country's initiative to unite the efforts of the states of the region and promote the exchange of best practices in this field.
The interlocutors discussed the prospects for expanding Belarus’ participation in the UN peacekeeping operations, and also touched upon a number of issues regarding the possibilities for deepening cooperation between Belarus and the UN in other areas of activity.
The sides discussed the preparations for the joint international conference on combating terrorism in all its forms, including the use of modern technologies, to be held in Minsk in September 2019.
A.Dapkiunas and L.Bilman confirmed the mutual interest in further supporting the practice of regular political contacts between the leadership of Belarus and the UN secretariat.
