On September 12, 2024 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Maxim Ryzhenkov, addressed the plenary session of the 9th Belt and Road Summit in Hong Kong on the theme ‘Mastering Markets with New Opportunities’ as a keynote speaker.
The head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry spoke about Belarus' approach to promoting the Belt and Road Initiative, emphasising its creative nature and its role in strengthening the potential of the world's majority countries. The Minister emphasised the destructive approaches of the collective West and the EU in particular, expressing hope to rectify the situation.
On the margins of the summit a number of bilateral meetings were held with the heads of delegations of Malaysia, Cambodia and Bahrain.

The programme of the second day of the Minister's working visit included meetings with Hong Kong partners, with whom the state of bilateral trade cooperation was discussed within the framework of the economic agenda, the positive dynamics of trade in goods and services between Belarus and Hong Kong and the increase in business activity were noted. New directions and formats of interaction in trade and investment were outlined.
During the meeting with the Special Envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China to the Hong Kong SAR (with the rank of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs), the parties discussed a broad agenda of cooperation between the two countries, focusing on effective regional ties, interdepartmental contacts, developing the potential of trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation with Hong Kong and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau, including in the preparation and implementation of projects of the Belt and Road Initiative, and summarised the results of the first-ever visit of the Belarusian Foreign Minister to the Hong Kong SAR.
