On March 27, 2023 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Sergei Aleinik, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Frederick Shava, who is currently on an official visit to Belarus.
The Foreign Ministers of Belarus and Zimbabwe considered a full range of issues on the bilateral agenda, including political interaction, cooperation in international organizations, specific economic projects and joint humanitarian initiatives.
Special attention was paid to the issues of ensuring food security and participation of Belarus in the implementation of the long-term development strategy of Zimbabwe ”Vision 2030“. Zimbabwe reaffirmed its interest in the extension of supplies of Belarusian agricultural equipment and in learning Belarus' experience and competencies in the industrialization and mechanization of the national economy.
The practical aspects of further formation of the legal and institutional framework for cooperation were considered. In this context, the sides confirmed their readiness to establish a Joint Permanen Commission on Cooperation and hold its first meeting in the near future.
The Ministers once again emphasized the similariry of stances of Belarus and Zimbabwe on the inadmissibility of economic pressure on sovereign states, the illegal nature of unilateral coercive measures. The sides noted the necessity of building a fairer world order.
Following the negotiations, a Joint Statement by the Heads of the Foreign Ministries and a Memorandum of Understanding between the National Centre for Marketing and Price Study and National Trade Development and Promotion Organization ”ZimTrade“ were signed.
