On June 7, 2019 the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Andrei Dapkiunas, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Palestine to the Republic of Belarus, the doyen of the foreign diplomatic corps in Belarus, Khalid Ariqat.
During the meeting, the current situation in the Middle East and problems of the Palestinian territories, as well as certain international issues were discussed. The diplomats stated the consonance of foreign policy approaches of both sides and a consistent commitment of Belarus and Palestine to the fundamental principles of international law.
The interlocutors emphasized that existing opportunities to promote trade and economic cooperation for the benefit of Belarus and Palestine are a solid foundation for strengthening relations. With this regard, the parties noted the potential for a substantial increase of bilateral trade in goods and services, including in the field of medicine. A.Dapkiunas underlined that Belarus would like to see Palestine as a partner in the joint projects activities.
The Deputy Minister and the Ambassador agreed that the development of economic ties could be boosted due to the mutual visits of representatives of business circles, as well as the intensive cooperation between the chambers of commerce and branch ministries of Belarus and Palestine.
The diplomats reaffirmed their intention to reinforce cooperation between Belarus and Palestine both in the bilateral context and in international organizations, primarily the UN.A. Dapkiunas and Kh.Ariqat discussed the possibilities of improving coordination of actions of Belarus with the Group of 77 and China in which Palestine currently chairs, as well as of strengthening relations between Belarus and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
