Alexander Lukashenko Receives Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of Belarus Piotr Prokopovich (press release by press service of the President)

The National Bank has ensured normal functioning of the system of payments, crediting of the real sector of economy, pursuing an appropriate interest rate policy.

Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that the banking system of the republic must make every effort to reach the planned targets in the current year.

Piotr Prokopovich also reported on preparing for the 12th session of the Interbank Currency Council of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus and the Central Bank of the Russian Federation due on October 26 in Minsk. Introduction of a single currency of the union state including the setting up of a single emission centre are among issues to be discussed during the upcoming session.

The President reiterated his invariable stand: in seeking solution to the above issues the provisions of the Treaty on the Creation of the Union State should be implemented undeviatingly, the principle of equal rights should be followed and the sovereignty of the Republic of Belarus should be respected.
