On January 10, 2024 the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Brazil and Uruguay non-resident, Sergey Lukashevich, presented copies of his Credentials to First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, Nicolás Albertoni.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the need to expand political and economic interaction between Belarus and Uruguay. The main areas of trade and economic cooperation, implementation of the legal framework were outlined. In the near future the countries plan to sign an agreement on mutual abolition of visas for holders of national passports.
Belarus and Uruguay are long-standing partners: in 2022, the countries celebrated the 30th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. For all these three decades Belarus has been building constructive relations with Uruguay, which are based on trade and economy. Since 2013, Sebastián Asis Andrzejuk, an ethnic Belarusian has been working in Urugua as an Honorary consul of our country.
