On November 21-22, 2018 the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Evgeny Shestakov, visited Panama. This is the first ever visit in the history of Belarusian-Panamanian relationship at the level of the Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus.
During his stay in Panama, E.Shestakov met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama, Maria Luisa Navarro, the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry of Panama, Néstor González, and the Chairman of the Panamanian Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, Gabriel Barletta.
At the meeting with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama the parties discussed topical issues and prospects for the development of bilateral relations in various fields, as well as interaction within international organizations.
During negotiations in the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, the sides discussed current state of the Belarusian-Panamanian trade and economic cooperation, identified possible ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in this area, including mutual participation in thematic exhibitions, establishment of direct cooperation between the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of both countries, assistance in facilitation contacts between the business circles of Belarus and Panama.
E.Shestakov also visited the headquarters of the Latin American Parliament (PARLATINO) and met with its Chairman Elías Castillo. The prospects of participation of the Belarusian side in the work of PARLATINO, as well as the use of the platform of this organization to promote the national interests of Belarus in the Latin American region were discussed.
