Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus I.Sekreta meets representatives of OHCHR and ILO in Geneva

On November 3, 2025, during his visit to Geneva to participate in the Fourth Universal Review, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Igor Sekreta, met with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk.

The interlocutors exchanged views on global trends in ensuring conditions for the realization of human rights and discussed the prospects for cooperation between Belarus and OHCHR, including the organization of work on the recommendations adopted following the fourth cycle of the UPR of Belarus. 

The Belarusian diplomat drew the attention of the High Commissioner to the deteriorating situation in certain EU countries, as well as to the blatant violations related to the closure of borders by Poland, Lithuania and Latvia. The importance of the UN's critical and objective approach to assessing human rights violations in Western countries was emphasized. 

I.Sekreta stressed the readiness of the Belarusian side for non-politicized cooperation with OHCHR and confirmed the invitation to the High Commissioner to visit Belarus. 

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs also met with the Assistant Director General of the International Labour Organization, Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, Beate Andrees.

The state and prospects of Belarus' relations with the ILO were discussed. 

I.Sekreta informed the interlocutor about the priorities of the Government of Belarus for the development of the country's social and labor sphere in accordance with international standards and ILO conventions. 

The interlocutors exchanged views on a number of issues related to the politically biased approaches promoted by Western countries and some international trade union organizations towards Belarus. 

The Deputy Minister stressed the importance of restoring full-fledged cooperation between all ILO institutions and Belarusian partners on a pragmatic and non-politicized basis.
