Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus V.Makei participates in the meeting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers in the form of a video conference

On December 1, 2020 the Belarusian delegation headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, took part in the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Member States of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, which was held in the form of a video conference.

At the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the main trends in the development of the global and regional security, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the situation in the world. The sides noted the demand for the CSTO in a dynamically developing international situation and the need to fully utilize the Organization's potential to maintain international peace and security, also taking into account the development of its’ peacekeeping component. 

In his statement, V.Makei presented the assessments of the Belarusian side of the situation in the field of regional and international security. Minister noted the growth of mistrust and conflict potential in international relations and expressed concern over the further erosion of the system of international agreements in the field of arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation. The Belarusian Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of joint consolidated efforts aimed at strengthening the architecture of international security and stability. 

During the meeting, Tajikistan presented the priority areas of the CSTO activities for the period of its’ upcoming Presidency of the Organization in 2021. 

The Foreign Ministers of the CSTO Member States adopted a statement on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of the end of World War II and approved a number of documents that were submitted for the consideration of the CSTO Council of Collective Security.
