Office of the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Belarus opens in Hokkaido Prefecture (Japan)

On November 8, 2021 the official opening ceremony of the Office of the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Belarus took place in the city of Hakodate, Hokkaido Prefecture.

The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to Japan, Ruslan Esin, members of the Japanese Parliament, Hokkaido Prefecture Government, Hakodate City Hall, as well as regional public organizations, business associations and clergy.

Honorary Consul’ area of priority is the development of bilateral economic, cultural, sports and interregional ties.

It is symbolic that the office of the Honorary Consul is located in the city of Hakodate, where a famous native of the Belarusian lands, an outstanding diplomat Iosif Goshkevich with his wife Elizaveta Goshkevich lived and worked for a long time. The participants of the event laid flowers at the bust of Iosif Goshkevich and at the grave of his wife Elizabeth.
