Foreign Minister of Belarus S.Aleinik visits the Republic of Equatorial Guinea

On June 2-3, 2023 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Sergei Aleinik, is paying a visit to the Republic of Equatorial Guinea. 

S.Aleinik was received by the President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. The Minister conveyed the Head of Equatorial Guinea a message from President Aleksandr Lukashenko and an invitation to visit Belarus.The invitation has been accepted with gratitude. 

The sides confirmed mutual interest in developing interstate contacts. The parties focused on interaction in the economic sphere, including agriculture, industrial cooperation, food production, healthcare, etc. 

During the talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Diaspora of Equatorial Guinea, Simeon Oyono Esono Angue, the sides discussed the whole range of issues of bilateral cooperation and the interaction in international organizations.

The parties confirmed similarities in their approaches to major issues on the global and regional agenda including the equitable world order, negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the sustainable development of states and food security on a global scale. 

The Ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries, establishing a mechanism for regular political consultations. 

Following the talks, a Joint Statement on the agreements reached during the visit of the Belarusian Foreign Minister to Equatorial Guinea was signed, including on the development of political dialogue and cooperation in trade, economy and investment, food security, healthcare, medicine, maternal and child welfare, education, science and technology, mining and petrochemistry, security and defense. The sides outlined practical steps to expand the contractual and legal framework of the bilateral relations. 

The Belarusian Foreign Minister also met with the First Vice-President, Minister for the Cabinet of the President of Equatorial Guinea  and the Minister of Defense. During the meetings, topical areas of cooperation of mutual interest were discussed. 

Background Information: Equatorial Guinea is one of the richest and most stable countries in Africa. In 2021, the country's GDP totaled $12.3 billion, the inflation rate was 5.1%. The country ranks first in Africa in terms of GDP per capita (about $8,000).
