Bilateral Meetings of Minister S.Aleinik during his participation in the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting

On June 11, 2024 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Sergei Aleinik, attended the enlarged session of the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting together with the heads of Foreign Ministries of like-minded countries representing regional formats of interaction, such as the SCO, ASEAN, the Indian Ocean Rim Association, the African Union, the League of Arab States and others.

The key aspects of shaping a more just world order, as well as the role of the countries of the Global South and East in these processes, were discussed in detail. The participants cinsidered topical international challenges, including ensuring equal security, sustainable development and long-term economic growth.

In his statement, S.Aleinik emphasised the importance of preserving peace, maintaining economic stability and social welfare of the peoples, outlined the priority areas of cooperation with BRICS for our country, and voiced the interest of Belarus to take part in the work of the Association as a partner.

On the margins of the event, bilateral talks were held with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Ali Sabry. The sides discussed ways to intensify bilateral relations, humanitarian cooperation and promising economic projects. An agreement was reached to restart the instruments of Belarusian-Lankan interaction.

More active participation of Belarus in ASEAN (Laos will chair the organisation in 2024), support in international organisations, a schedule of prospective contacts and development of the legal framework were the topics of the talks with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos, Saleumxay Kommasith.

Exchange of visits at various levels and prioritisation of several significant projects in trade, economic, scientific and technical spheres were discussed with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

The Ministers highly appreciated the results of the third meeting of the Joint Belarusian-Saudi Intergovernmental Committee held in May 2024 in Riyadh.

The meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkiye, Hakan Fidan, focused on updating the implementation of the agreements following the visit of the Belarusian Foreign Minister to Ankara in November 2023, the regional situation and interaction in international organisations, with an emphasis on the OSCE issues.

With the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Taye Atske Selassie, the sides discussed the economic potential of Belarus and the BRICS countries, including Ethiopia, and the modalities of joint work in the economic field.

The Ministers also assessed the prospects for cooperation in agriculture, education, strengthening Ethiopia's industrial potential and expanding mutual trade.

A brief exchange of views on topical issues on the margins of the event was also held with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, Wang Yi, and the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Murat Nurtleu.
