03 December 2020

On December 3, 2020 the 27th meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OSCE participating states was held in online format.

Speaking at the plenary session of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, the head of the Belarusian delegation, Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei emphasized the need to overcome the deficit of mutual trust and block thinking that still exists in the OSCE area and observe the principle of sovereign equality of states and non-interference in internal affairs.

Minister spoke out against the far-fetched use of outdated politicized mechanisms by some OSCE participating states.

V.Makei emphasized the inadmissibility of unilateral restrictive measures by participating states, the counterproductive nature of sanctions, especially economic, which never achieve their goals and only deepen the chasm of distrust between countries.

The Minister noted Belarus' contribution to resolving protracted conflicts in the OSCE area and efforts to counter transnational threats and challenges. He called for focusing on real security threats and looking for ways out of the institutional crisis faced by the Organization. Vladimir Makei stressed Belarus' readiness for constructive and mutually beneficial dialogue on enhancing the effectiveness of arms proliferation control regimes and confidence- and security-building measures.

In light of the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, the Belarusian Foreign Minister urged to remember the tragic lessons of the past and fight against glorification of Nazism and neo-Nazism in the OSCE area.

The meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council will continue on December 4, 2020 and conclude with the adoption of final documents.
