Foreign Minister of Belarus S.Aleinik pays a visit to Hungary

On April 11-12, 2023 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Sergei Aleinik, pays a visit to Hungary to participate in the 11th session of the Intergovernmental Belarusian-Hungarian Commission on Economic Cooperation. The Hungarian side is co-chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto.

 

 

The participants of the session discussed current issues of practical cooperation in the economic and investment fields. The Commission focused mainly on the prospects for cooperation in the spheres of agriculture, industry, energy and water management. Issues of scientific research and education were also discussed.

Co-chairs of the Commission S.Aleinik and P.Szijjarto emphasized the necessity to look for the ways to reach the full potential of the Belarusian-Hungarian cooperation. The Ministers noted the sides readiness to continue to work on the development of economic relations, including in the most advanced and technological areas.

The sides underlined mutual interest in a pragmatic and open dialogue, building strong ties at the sectoral and expert level.

The participants of the Commission discussed and analyzed concrete economic and investment projects and outlined the mechanism for their future implementation.  

Following the meeting a Protocol that defines the targets of the branch interaction for the next year was signed. In addition, the sides signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of nuclear energy.

 

 

During the “one-on-one” meeting the Foreign Ministers of Belarus and Hungary discussed a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda with the focus on trade and economic cooperation.

The Ministers agreed on the priority areas for the development of the bilateral relations in the near future. They also identified the content and implementation of activities in the framework of the Program of Cooperation between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries in 2023, which were signed earlier in Minsk . The situation in the world, as well as in the European and Eurasian regions, was discussed.

S.Aleinik together with his Hungarian colleague took part in the opening of a business forum on the sidelines of the Intergovernmental Commission. Over 70 enterprises representing various sectors of economy and business structures from Belarus and Hungary participated on the forum.


In his statement, the Minister emphasized the importance of business interaction for the strengthening and development of bilateral relations. "It is noteworthy that these areas cover the entire range of key sectors of the modern developed economy: the agricultural sector, industry, construction, medicine, various types of services," noted S.Aleinik.

During the visit the head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry also met with the Minister of Agriculture of Hungary, Istvan Nagy. The sides discussed cooperation in the agricultural sector and emphasized the importance of the establishment and activities of the sectoral working group.

The Belarusian delegation visited the sales and service center of JSC "Belarus Tractor" in Hort. A meeting was held with the management and employees of the enterprise. Prospects of further activities were discussed.

The Minister also held negotiations with the management of a number of large Hungarian companies.
