Principles, goals and objectives of the foreign policy of the Republic of Belarus

Main principles, goals and objectives of Belarus' foreign policy are defined in the Law “On Approval of the Basic Directions of Domestic and Foreign Policy of the Republic of Belarus” as of November 14, 2005, No. 60-Z.

Geographic location of Belarus at the crossroads of main transport routes between Europe and Asia, and a complicated history of our country, which experienced destructive consequences of numerous wars and conflicts, predetermined a multi-vector approach in our foreign policy as its fundamental principle, aimed at building balanced and constructive relations with partners in various regions of the world. In international dialogue Belarus adheres to the principle of good-neighbourly relations with contiguous countries, as well as to the principles of peacefulness, equality, mutual respect, non-interference in domestic affairs and rejection of pressure or coercion.

International activity of Belarus is primarily aimed at ensuring security of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Belarus, protecting rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of its citizens, creating favorable external political and economic conditions for improvement of citizens’ prosperity level, development of political, economic, intellectual and spiritual capacity of our state. One of the most essential preconditions for it is ensuring equitable integration of the Republic of Belarus into the global political, economic, scientific, cultural and informational community.
