On March 14, 2017 during the visit to the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Valentin Rybakov, participated in a special inauguration event on the initiative of proclaiming the UN Decade of Family Farming.
The event was organised by the Mission of Costa Rica to the UN together with a number of international and non-governmental organisations promoting the development of agriculture worldwide.
In conversations with the participants, the Deputy Minister discussed the possibility of Belarus joining the multilateral efforts to ensure continued attention of the broad international community to the development of family farming.
Background Information: Currently family farms produce 80% of the world’s food. Worldwide, 40% of households depend on family farming. The UN General Assembly proclaimed 2014 International Year of Family Farming. Now the group of interested states members of the United Nations promotes the idea of giving more attention to this problem through the proclamation of the special UN international decade.
