On August 1, 2017 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a briefing dedicated to the World Day against Trafficking in Persons.
Background Information: the World Day against Trafficking in Persons was established by the UN General Assembly on the initiative of the Republic of Belarus and starting from the year 2014 it has been celebrated annually on July 30.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Office of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in the Republic of Belarus.
Representatives of the republican governmental authorities, IOM, UNICEF, UNDP, UNFPA, UNHCR, and the United States Agency for International Development described the measures taken at the national and international levels to combat trafficking in persons. The participants shared ideas on how to improve the interaction of partners and coordination on the anti-trafficking direction.
Special attention was paid to combating trafficking in children, including with the use of information technologies.
The results of the work of the youth summer camp “Act.Learn.Share”, organized under the auspices of the IOM and aimed at attracting young people's attention to the problem of trafficking in persons, were presented.
Representatives of private business, who provided significant assistance to this initiative, were awarded with certificates of gratitude from the IOM, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.
