Question: Do you have any comments on the decision of the U.S. Administration to continue for 1 year the Executive Order with respect to Belarus issued in 2006 by the President George Bush?
Answer: The continuation for 1 year by the U.S. President Barack Obama of the Executive Order with respect to Belarus issued in 2006 by the U.S. President George Bush shows that sanction declamations, counter-productive efforts to use coercive methods and the unwillingness to build up international relations on a proper basis still prevail in the U.S. politics.
We recommend the White House to pay attention to the absurd statements in the Executive Order on allegedly existing “unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States” from Belarus, especially against the background of the specific ongoing interaction between our countries on the most important matters of global and regional security.
Such decisions hinder the development of Belarus-U.S. relations.
