Belarus-Ukraine

Diplomatic relations between Belarus and Ukraine were established December 27, 1991. Embassy of our country in Ukraine has been operating since October 1993. More than 210 bilateral treaties and other international legal instruments have been signed between the Republic of Belarus and Ukraine.

The basic documents regulating bilateral political and economic cooperation are the Treaty on Friendship, Good Neighborliness and Cooperation, and the Free Trade Agreement.

In 2017, three high-level meetings were held, in 2018 the President of Ukraine paid a working visit to Belarus, which shows the practical interest of the two countries in strengthening mutually beneficial relations between the Republic of Belarus and Ukraine.

October 11, 2018 the 26th session of the Intergovernmental Belarusian-Ukrainian mixed commission on trade and economic cooperation was held in Gomel under the leadership of co-chairs – the Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Igor Lyashenko and Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister for Regional Development, Construction and Housing – Gennady Zubko.

October 25-26, 2018, the first Forum of the Regions of Belarus and Ukraine was successfully held in Gomel. The heads of the two states took part in the Forum.

In 2017, trade with Ukraine amounted to $ 4.59 billion, exports reached $3.4 billion.

In January-November 2018, the trade turnover amounted to 5.06 billion dollars, including Belarusian exports of 3.79 billion dollars.

On the instructions of the two presidents, the Belarusian side has developed a Roadmap for the achievement of trade turnover with Ukraine in the amount of at least 8 billion dollars in 2019.

In Ukraine, there is a well-developed commodity distribution network of Belarusian exporters, numbering more than one hundred companies. The flagships of Belarusian economy such as BelAZ, MTZ and Atlant have an extensive dealership network in Ukrainian regions.

In 2017, three companies were established with Belarusian participation. In Lutsk, an enterprise was set up for assembling Belarusian trolley buses Belkommunmash. Currently eight joint assembly plants (tractors, combine harvesters, elevator equipment, trolley buses, MAZ equipment, etc.) are operating in Ukraine. 

Joint cultural projects are actively being carried out. One of the most significant events of 2018 was Ukraine Culture Days in Belarus. Within the first Forum of the Regions of Belarus and Ukraine, the Friendship Concert was organized.

Other cultural highlights of the year were the performances of the well-known amateur Ensemble of the Belarus Folk Song Tsernitsa; the Belarusian theater project “TriTformaT”, the traditional participation of performers and creative teams in the International Festivals “O-FEST” and “Carpathian Space”.
