Statement of the press-service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus in connection with the regional elections in Taiwan on January 16th, 2016 (January 19, 2016)

Taking into consideration the fact of the regional elections that took place in Taiwan on January 16th, 2016 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus reaffirms adherence to the one-China policy and recognizes the Government of the People’s Republic of China as the only legitimate government representing the whole China, while Taiwan is regarded as an integral part of the Chinese territory.

Abovementioned position is defined in a number of bilateral agreements with the China and in the Joint Declaration on deepening comprehensive strategic partnership between Belarus and China, adopted in May 2015.

The Republic of Belarus stands for peaceful development of the relations between the Taiwan Strait shores.
