Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus with regard to the PACE resolution on Belarus
While speaking about the deficit of democracy in Belarus, which does not enjoy a Council of Europe membership, and describing the situation in the country as inconsistent with the Council of Europe standards, the Parliamentary Assembly deliberately closes its eyes on the situation in a number of CoE Member States where democratic European standards are entirely non-existent, where terrorism enjoys support and terrorists - a safe haven.
The PACE takes upon itself great responsibility by refusing to cooperate with the Belarusian Parliament and downgrading this cooperation to the level of Belarusian political parties and politicised non-governmental organizations.
Belarusian Foreign Ministry expresses its confidence that a sooner membership of the Republic of Belarus to the Council of Europe will help the Organisation to completely abandon the mistrust in the European organisation's current approach vis-a-vis the European country.
