Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus V.Makei participates in the 54th Munich Security Conference

On February 16-18, 2018 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, paid a working visit to Germany to participate in the 54th Munich Security Conference.

The Head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry took part in the plenary sessions of the conference, as well as in a number of panel discussions, including those on security in Eastern Europe.

On the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference the Foreign Minister of Belarus also held a number of bilateral meetings and negotiations.

The current agenda for cooperation between Belarus and Germany was considered during the meeting with the adviser to Chancellor of Germany on foreign policy and security issues, Jan Hecker.

V.Makei and the Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, as well as the EEAS Secretary General, Helga Schmid, discussed the prospects for Belarus' cooperation with the European Union.

The Belarusian Foreign Minister and the Chairman of the Munich Security Conference, Wolfgang Ischinger, discussed the facilitation of the meeting of the MSC Core Group Meeting, dedicated to the topic of dialogue between East and West, as well as regional security. The meeting is to take place in autumn 2018 in Minsk.

The possibilities of the Ukrainian conflict settlement were in the spotlight of the negotiations between V.Makei and the U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus held the meetings with the Foreign Ministers of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry, and Sudan, Ibrahim Gandur, as well as with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden, Annika Söder. During these meetings, the parties considered issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

V.Makei also met with the Chairman of the Eastern Committee of German Economy, Wolfgang Büchel. The sides discussed the revitalization of the activities of the Belarusian-German non-governmental business cooperation council, which resumed its work in 2017, as well as promoting industrial cooperation between enterprises of Belarus and Germany.

An exchange of views with the board member of the “Siemens” concern, Roland Bush, took place on the issues of the implementation of promising projects of the German concern in the Republic of Belarus. Special attention was paid to the mutually beneficial cooperation in the energy and industrial spheres.
