Deputy Foreign Minister Valentin Rybakov participates in the roundtable discussion of the UN Group of Friends of the Family

On February 11, 2016 in the United Nations Headquarters Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Valentin Rybakov took part in the roundtable discussion «Social and economic costs of family exclusion from the process of sustainable development».

The event was organised under the initiative of Belarus, Egypt and Qatar, as co-chairs of the Group of Friends of the Family, with the support of a number of US-based international non-governmental organisations.

Promotion of priorities and interests of the traditional family in the context of achieving Sustainable Development Goals up to 2030 was the key subject of the discussion.

Presentations made by representatives of the academic community clearly demonstrated that the traditional family is a key factor for sustainable and successful development of society.

Representatives of the Member States of the Group of Friends shared their national experience in the area of social and economic support of the family.

Participants of the discussion emphasised the importance of developing and promoting targeted programmes to support the institution of family and of practical steps to draw the public attention to the need for family-friendly policy, not only at national level, but also within the United Nations system.
