Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia visits Belarus

On June 21-22, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Miroslav Lajcak, visited the Republic of Belarus.



On June 22, 2017 during the meeting in the Foreign Ministry, the Foreign Ministers of Belarus and Slovakia discussed the implementation of the agreements reached following the results of the first exchange of official visits of Heads of Government of the two countries.



In an atmosphere of open and constructive dialogue, the Foreign Ministers discussed a wide range of issues of Belarusian-Slovak relations. It was stressed that the key area of bilateral interaction is trade and economic cooperation. The Belarusian and Slovak sides discussed specific plans for the future and agreed to continue working together to intensify trade, promote the implementation of joint economic projects. The sides noted the need to make full use of the Belarusian-Slovak joint commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation to implement the agreements reached at the highest level.



The Ministers also considered the development of relations between Belarus and the European Union, promising areas of interaction within other international and regional organizations, in particular the UN and the OSCE. The parties exchanged views on a number of topical issues on the international agenda. V.Makei and M.Lajcak stressed the importance of normalization of the situation in the region, strengthening stability and security in Europe.

The Head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry congratulated his Slovak colleague on his election as the President of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly and wished him success in his work at this responsible post.
