Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus V.Makei participates in the International conference “Chernobyl 30 Years Later. From an Emergency to a Revival and Sustainable Social and Economic Development of Affected Territories"

On 25 April, 2016 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, participated in the International conference “Chernobyl 30 Years Later. From an Emergency to a Revival and Sustainable Social and Economic Development of Affected Territories".

The Assistant Secretary-General and the Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme, Helen Clark, also took part in the conference.

In his welcoming remarks, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus particular stressed the point that doing away with the after-effects of the Chernobyl catastrophe and restoring the affected territories is a priority for the Republic of Belarus, its leaders and people.

Minister further pointed to Belarus’ multifaceted and fruitful cooperation with the United Nations, in particular, to the importance of cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme.

According the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the key task of today’s forum is to work out concerted specific measures attuned to the development of prospective international Chernobyl cooperation.

The conference is being attended by representatives of the Government of Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, international and non-governmental organizations, diplomatic corps, as well as numerous experts and journalists.
