Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus V.Rybakov participates in the UN discussion on human trafficking issues

On December 5, 2016 during the visit to the United Nations Headquarters, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Valentin Rybakov, participated in the roundtable “Preparing for 2017 Review of the Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons: How to Bring Partners and Ideas Together?”.

The event was convened by the initiative of Belarus on behalf of the Group of Friends United against Human Trafficking. Austria, Hungary and Liechtenstein, as well as the International Labour Organization also co-organized the event.

In his statement, V.Rybakov presented a vision of Belarus regarding a high-level meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on the review of the Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons. The Deputy Minister informed about the initiatives of Belarus on the international arena on this issue.

Background Information: In accordance with United Nations General Assembly resolution 70/179 “Improving the coordination of efforts against trafficking in persons”, which is submitted by Belarus, the UN General Assembly decided to convene in October 2017 a high-level meeting to review the Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons in order to assess the main challenges in combating human trafficking.
