On the Joint Session of the Collegium of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and the Collegium of the Russian Foreign Ministry

On November 18, 2014 Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus hosted the annual joint session of the Collegiums of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation led by the Heads of Foreign Ministries Mr.Vladimir Makei and Mr.Sergei Lavrov.

Belarusian Foreign Minister Mr.Vladimir Makei also held a meeting with his Russian colleague Mr.Sergei Lavrov. The sides discussed the key issues of Belarus-Russia cooperation.

Within the session of the collegiums the participants positively evaluated current level of Belarus-Russia cooperation in different spheres.

The sides discussed the issues of cooperation within the framework of OSCE, the development of relations with the European Union and arms control in the world at the present stage, work with the compatriots in third countries.

The participants paid special attention to the discussion of the issues of promoting Belarus-Russia joint initiative, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic war. Following the results of the discussion the sides adopted the Plan of Action.

Within the framework of the agenda the parties also signed the Plan of consultations between Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and of the Russian Federation for the 2015.

During the session the sides marked comprehensive implementation of the Programme of coordinated actions for 2014-2015 in the sphere of foreign policy of the countries parties to the Agreement on the creation of the Union State. The sides also confirmed mutual determination to cooperate closely for strengthening the positions of both countries on the international arena as well as for deepening integration processes within the framework of Union State and in other formats.

The parties also agreed to work intensively in the UN, including in order to strengthen multilateral cooperation against human trafficking. The sides also agreed that it’s necessary to build-up cooperation within the BRICS and SCO in order to use the potential of our countries and advantages of Eurasian integration in the projects of these organizations. Also the sides touched upon the issue of ensuring stability and security in the region and throughout the world.
