Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus O.Kravchenko participates in the Security Policy Workshop

On November 13, 2018 the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Oleg Kravchenko, took part in the Security Policy Workshop «Security options of the EU’s Eastern partners: Is there a role for neutrality?», organized by the Minsk Dialogue Initiative in the framework of the Austrian Chairmanship in the Council of the European Union.

In his welcome remarks O.Kravchenko noted some phases of development, evolution and transformation of the concept of neutrality in Europe and encouraged the audience to discuss how the elements of the classic neutrality concept and its modern interpretation could be possibly applied to reducing the tensions in the region based on the realistic assessment of the situation and the existing alliances.

Speakers from Austria, Malta, Sweden, Switzerland and Finland dwelt on the background and modalities of the establishment of neutrality of their countries. The discussions were joined by experts and academics from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Great Britain, Germany, Georgia, Ukraine, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland. as well as representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.
