Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Makei meets Chairman of the Executive Committee — CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev

On January 27, 2015 in Minsk Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Makei held a meeting with the Chairman of the Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev.

The sides discussed prospects of further development of cooperation within the CIS.

After the meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus addressed the first in this year session of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the States-Participants of the CIS under Charter and Other Bodies of the Commonwealth.

In his speech, Mr. Vladimir Makei paid particular attention to the implementation of the initiatives launched by the Republic of Belarus during its presidency in the CIS in 2013 and 2014, in particular about drafting the CIS free trade area agreement on services, imparting more specifics to interstate innovation cooperation program, arranging regular meetings of heads of finance and economic departments of States – Participants of the CIS.

He also touched upon the problem of Ukraine. The Minister expressed his opinion that Ukraine should continue participating in activities of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
