On the Visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr.Vladimir Makei to the UAE

On 21-22 October, 2014 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Mr.Vladimir Makei was on a working visit to the United Arab Emirates.

The Belarusian delegation headed by the Minister included the representatives of “Belneftekhim”, “Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus”, Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ministries of Economy, Industry, Healthcare, Internal Affairs, Sports and Tourism, Energy, Foreign Affairs.

On October 22 the second session of the Joint Committee on Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the United Arab Emirates took place in Abu Dhabi. The Belarusian part of the Committee was headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr.Vladimir Makei, the Emirati – by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mr.Anwar Gargash.

During the session, the sides considered promising areas of economic and investment cooperation between the two countries in the fields of industry, agriculture, energy, health, science, technology, finance, etc.

Within the bilateral meeting of Mr.Vladimir Makei with Mr.Anwar Gargash, the parties discussed a wide range of topical issues on the bilateral agenda, cooperation on the international arena, the situation in the Middle East and the former Soviet Union.

Within the visit of the Belarusian delegation to the UAE the sides signed the extradition treaty between the Republic of Belarus and the United Arab Emirates, Agreement on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, as well as Memorandum of understanding on political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates.

Under the auspices of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce, Belarusian-Emirati Business Forum with the participation of representatives of business circles of Belarus and the UAE took place.

The Memorandum of cooperation between the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Chamber of Commerce of Sharjah was signed.

The day before, on October 21, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus met with Deputy Prime Minister — Minister of Presidential Affairs His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Economy Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Department of Energy of Abu Dhabi Nasser Al Sowaidi.

At the meetings the sides discussed possible ways of further strengthening and expanding cooperation between Belarus and the United Arab Emirates in the economic and investment fields, the prospects for increasing cooperation in the field of energy.

On October 21 the first meeting of the joint Belarus-Emirates Business Council with the participation of business circles of Belarus and the UAE took place.
