Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus A.Dapkiunas meets the UNDP Administrator

On April 11, 2018 during his visit to the UN headquarters in New York, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Andrei Dapkiunas, met with the Administrator of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Achim Steiner.

Background Information: UNDP has been operating in Belarus since 1992. At present, the fifth UNDP country program for Belarus for the period 2016-2020 is in effect with a total funding of $82 million. In 2017 funds disbursed through UNDP for the implementation of technical assistance projects amounted to $9.25 million.

The parties discussed results of the first regional forum of coordinators on sustainable development goals, which was held in Minsk in February 2018, and agreed to continue joint efforts in implementing by Belarus of sustainable development goals of the sustainable development agenda.

The Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus stressed importance of improving the practice of projects’ implementation in the framework of international technical assistance through UNDP and UN agencies in Belarus, importance of ensuring trusting cooperation with national partners and of increasing transparency in projects planning and implementation. The sides agreed on joint steps of Belarusian state partners and UN agencies in Belarus to resolve these issues as soon as possible.
