25th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and Canada

April 15, 2017 marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and Canada.

On this occasion the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, sent the letter of congratulation to his counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Chrystia Freeland.

In the letter Minister notes, in particular, close friendship between Belarusians and Canadians despite geographical distance between our countries. And on this day we praise our main asset that makes Belarus and Canada relations special – the friendship between the peoples of our countries, reads the letter.

Canada was one of the first countries to help Belarus and Belarusian citizens after the Chernobyl disaster: “For decades, Canadians would open their homes and hearts to hundreds of Belarusian children who came to Canada for recuperation”.

In his letter Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus also underscores the interest of the Belarusian side in developing dynamic cooperation between Belarus and Canada in the fields of economy, humanitarian activities, international and regional security, combating against human trafficking, and mitigation of climate change.
