Belarusian delegation participates in the UNECE Forum on Sustainable Development

On March 1-2, 2018 in Geneva the Belarusian delegation headed by the Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, the National Coordinator on the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, Marianna Shchotkina, participated in the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development for the UNECE Region.

The delegation also included the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, Yury Ambrazevich, the Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Standardization — Director of the Department for Energy Efficiency, Mikhail Malashenko, and the Head of the Department on Multilateral Diplomacy of the Foreign Ministry, Larisa Belskaya.

The agenda of the Forum was devoted to the implementation of SDGs at the national, regional and global levels. A high-level segment meeting, as well as round tables on sustainable water, sustainable energy, sustainable cities, a rational model of consumption and production, rational use of forests and ecosystems, and policy development between these goals, were held during the Forum.

Marianna Shchotkina presented results of the Regional Forum of Sustainable Development Goals Coordinators “Building a Partnership to Underpin National Sustainable Development Solutions”, which took place in Minsk on February 21-22, 2018.

Members of the Belarusian delegation delivered their remarks to the participants of the round tables on improving the efficiency of the energy system and transforming energy in support of Agenda 2030, as well as  side-events of the Forum “Gender Equality as a Factor of Accelerating the Implementation of the SDGs” and “Sustainable Development in the Unified Energy System and Experience in Implementing the SDGs at the Sub-Regional Level”.

Marianna Shchotkina held bilateral meetings with the Deputy Secretary-General of UNCTAD, Isabelle Durant, and the Executive Director of the International Trade Center, Arancha González, to discuss prospective areas of Belarus' cooperation with these organizations, including with participation of the Belarusian Union of Women.
